About
About Crete Guide
Crete Guide is an independent editorial travel guide to Crete. Our goal is to help visitors plan trips that go beyond the obvious — with honest, clearly sourced information and a preference for slow travel, local culture and places that reward attention.
How we source information
We draw on three sources: first-hand local knowledge, verified visitor reviews from multiple independent platforms, and Crete Guide editorial research and curation. We do not claim personal visits to every location we cover.
Every entry in our guides is labelled to show how it was sourced:
- Visited by us — personally verified by the Crete Guide team
- Locally recommended — recommended by local residents or businesses we trust
- Visitor-reviewed — compiled from independently verified visitor reviews
- Needs verification — included but not yet verified; use additional sources
Accommodation disclosure
Some properties mentioned on this site are connected to the Crete Guide team. These are always clearly labelled with a disclosure note. We include them alongside other options — not as the only or primary recommendation. We do not use promotional language for affiliated properties that we would not use for others.
Review and freshness
Crete changes between seasons. Opening hours shift, places close, new ones open. We aim to update guides regularly and show when each was last reviewed. If you notice something out of date, please contact us.
No booking funnels
We are not a booking platform. We do not earn commission on hotel bookings and we do not optimise for affiliate revenue at the expense of editorial quality. When we link to booking platforms, it is because they are useful — not because we are paid to.
Newsletter
The Crete Guide newsletter is occasional and editorial — not a promotional mailing list. Subscribers receive seasonal travel ideas, updates when major guides are revised, and a welcome PDF with quiet places and local food stops.
